CYNTHIA YOUNG - Artistic and Educational Leadership Informed by Stellar Ballet Career
Cynthia Young received her training with the San Francisco Ballet and at the University of Utah. Joining Ballet West at the age of 15 she became the youngest principal dancer with a major American ballet company. Ms. Young worked with Willam, Harold and Lew Christensen; Jacques D'Amboise; Bill Evans; and John Butler, to name a few. During the course of her career Ms. Young performed leading roles in a diversified repertory, from the classics of Giselle to contemporary ballets such as Carmina Burana.
Arriving in Los Angeles, Ms. Young's energy was diverted to opening and operating Le Studio. In addition to teaching numerous classes she coordinated and rehearsed Pasadena Dance Theatre's Regional Company (PDT II), and created the young professional division in 1981. Ms. Young has received numerous gala credits and awards and was the recipient of the National Choreographic Plan Award for her ballets in 1991 and 1995 at the National Regional Festival. That same year the Board of the Pasadena Dance Theatre selected Ms. Young to direct its non-profit training program and performing company.
In 1997, the PDT Conservatory opened its current facility in central Pasadena under her leadership and with the support of Laurence Blake. Now almost two decades into the 21st century, the company and school continue to be recognized for their high artistic quality and professionalism.
Acclaimed throughout Europe and the United States for her dramatic and interpretive talent, Ms. Young has performed a diversified classical repertoire in addition to modern and contemporary works. Pictured below, Ms. Young in Ballet West's productions of Giselle and The Nutcracker to name a few. The experience she brings to the PDT Conservatory makes this school Pasadena's and the San Gabriel Valley communities #1 choice for ballet training.
